sutton hoo

If you are looking for somewhere new to visit why not give Sutton Hoo a try? Sometimes referred to as 'page one of the history of England', Sutton Hoo is a unique and fascinating place for everyone to enjoy.

The discovery of ship rivets in an ancient burial mound in 1939, by local archaeologist Basil Brown, led to one of the most amazing finds in this country's history - the ship burial of an Anglo-Saxon warrior king and his most treasured possessions, lying undisturbed for over 1300 years. Given to the National Trust in 1998, this premier attraction on the south Suffolk coast offers an exhibition hall with a full sized replica of the burial chamber, guided tours to the burial mounds, estate walks through the lovely countryside, a children's play area, restaurant and shop.
