the eaterie

The Eaterie’s stunning dining room blends historical charm with modern interior design. We offer an A La Carte menu of contemporary British food with an emphasis on seasonality for both lunch and dinner.

The Eaterie can be a lively space with a hum of convivial chat and the bustle of a friendly, experienced team working the tables with recommendations from the wine list. Cocktails from our bar – one of Bury’s most popular – will add zing to your meal.

the vaults

The Vaults – a series of 12th-century cellars steeped in history and full of atmosphere were once part of the medieval undercroft. Now, these vaulted chambers are home to Suffolk’s most sought-after dining events.

The Vaults is also open as a restaurant and bar every Friday and Saturday evening and for our legendary Sunday lunches. They offer an intimate setting for our award-winning food, crafted cocktails and memorable moments.

Our famous

Pickwick Pie

The Pickwick Pie has become a firm favourite amongst the foodies of Suffolk. It is named after The Pickwick Papers, which were written at The Angel by our most famous former resident, Charles Dickens.

Savour slow-braised beef and red wine wrapped in shortcrust pastry, served with silky mash and root vegetables. The filling may change, but this mouth watering pie features proudly on our lunch and dinner menu daily.

Sunday Roasts

Sunday lunch is an iconic British favourite we take very seriously indeed. Each week, three meats from local farms are available, carefully prepared with all the traditional trimmings. Think Dingley Dell pork with homemade apple sauce, roast leg of local lamb, and of course a blushing-pink sirloin of Red Poll beef.

These Sunday roasts are served all day in the Eaterie from 12pm – 4pm, and again from 5pm – 9pm.

Demand to dine is high, so we’ve opened The Vaults every Sunday too, with bookings open between 12.30-2pm. Book early to dine in what is surely Suffolk’s most unique venue.

What’s the biggest table size I can book?

You can book a table for up to 9 guests online. Any tables of 10 or more need to be booked via our celebrations team. Please note, the maximum table size we can accommodate in the Eaterie is 14 guests on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday, and a maximum of 28 guests Monday to Thursday. Larger groups should book private hire of the green room or The Vaults.

Do I need to pay a deposit?

For tables of 6-9 guests, we ask for card details to confirm your booking. For tables of 10 or more, a non refundable deposit of £10 per person is required at booking stage.

Do you cater for allergies?

Absolutely, we follow very strict allergen procedures. Please inform us of any allergies or intolerances your guests may have upon booking as well as upon ordering.

Can I reserve a table in the bar?

Unfortunately we cannot reserve tables for drinks in the bar. The bar is open every day, from 7am for morning coffee until 11pm for drinks. However, hotel residents are welcome to stay up later with drinks in the lounge.

I’m bringing a dog

Unfortunately, our eaterie and bar are not dog friendly, however we do welcome dogs into our lounge area. So, do give us a call if you’d like to dine with your pup and we will do our best to reserve a table for you to dine in the lounge.
